Honestly, we are quite spoiled in Guadalajara *cough*costco*cough* and it is quite easy to get caught up in my little bubble and forget that I am living in Mexico and there is that entire Mexico drug cartel violent issue thing.  Details.

This past weekend we were reminded of this again. On Saturday there were over a dozen narco blockades around the city - burning bus type of thing, no one hurt thankfully.  So all of us consulate folks were instructed to stay in our homes.  

So with the extra time inside we decided to make the best of it and make a fancy brunch! Bloody Marys + Shrimp & Grits + Biscuits.  
So, if life ever gives you house arrest, or you are just thirsty (I don't judge, it happens!) here is D's bloody mary recipe!  Cheers! 

D's Bloody Mary Recipe
1oz Vodka  
Dried Chiles (we used chiles de arbol)
2 dashes Tabasco
1 dash Worchestershire
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
Celery Salt
Tomato Juice
1 stalk celery

Mix vodka with dried chiles - let sit for however long you are willing to wait for your beverage - we held off about 15 minutes! 
Mix vodka with the rest of the ingredients  - and serve over ice!
