'Twas the Night Before Packout

Monday, July 25, 2011

'Twas the night before pack-out and all through the 'partment,
Nothing was stirring, not even a garment.
Every item was marked with its color post-it notes,
In hopes that our shipment was put on the right boats.

The boxes and furnishings were piled up so high,
Fingers crossed that we didn't let something slip by.
D in his boxers and me in my gown,
Had just settled in for one last night in Old Town.
When out in the hall there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Sleepily walking, I was on cruise control,
Tripping over boxes to peer through the peep hole.
I looked out at the hallway and what did I see?
Strong men, empty boxes come for my UAB.
I knew in a moment that men with a clipboard,
Signaled a visit from the moving van horde.
More quickly than coaches bench McNabb at a game,
They whistled, and shouted, inventoried by name.
"Here's floor lamps, and knick knacks and all kitchen wares,
Appliances, and clothing and four dining chairs.
To the back of the that cabinent! To the back of the hall!
Now take it away!  Take it away, take away all!"
With dollies of boxes through the apartment they flew,
With tagine and kettle and pot for fondue.
And then, in an instant, I looked 'round the room.
Nothing was left but K, D and a broom.
They smiled as they grabbed the last dresser drawer,
Gave a nod as they walked out our apartment's front door.
They jumped in the lorry and cranked the truck up,
While we drank our champagne from our last Solo cup.
But I heard them exclaim, as they drove out of sight,
"You'll next see your shipment in many fortnights!"

With much pleasure I can report that we are READY for our first packout tomorrow.
Cheers to everything going smoothly.
